Only insured migrants whose countries offer corresponding benefits to Koreans shall be eligible for their due benefits when they return to their home country. They shall be entitled to their due benefits on a lump-sum basis if their home country gives eligible Korean nationals their due benefits on the same basis, or if they have entered into any social security agreement with Korea specifying the payment of due benefits on a lump-sum basis. As of now, countries meeting the foregoing requirements include Ghana, Malaysia, the U.S., Bermuda, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Switzerland, El Salvador (applicable only to cases of premiums paid since April, 1998), Kazakhstan (applicable only to cases of premiums paid since January, 1998), Canada (applicable to cases of premiums paid since May, 1999), Indonesia, Kenya, Trinidad & Tobago, etc. Migrant workers from others than the foregoing countries shall not be entitled to be given due benefits on a lump-sum basis. |
